Dr. Robert Weiss is a Professor of Natural Hazards in the Department of Geoscience and the director of the Center for Coastal Studies, which is housed under the umbrella of the Fralin Life Sciences Institute. He earned his Doctorate (Dr. rer. nat.) from the University of Münster (Germany) and his Master’s degree from the Friedrich Schiller University Jena (also Germany). In his research, he develops quantitative methods that help interrogate the geologic and historic records of storms and tsunamis, to help quantify their impact on coasts for hazard mitigation.
