Faculty Senate Cabinet

The Faculty Senate cabinet serves as the executive committee of the Faculty Senate.

The members of the cabinet are the president, vice-president, and secretary/treasurer of the Faculty Senate, and one senator from each college and the library not represented by the officers. Senate cabinet members who are not senate officers are elected for a term of one year by caucus of the senators of the respective colleges. A senator may not be elected to the cabinet for more than two consecutive terms. 

Members of the 2012-2013 Faculty Senate cabinet are:

  • Faculty Senate President and College of Natural Resources and Environment representative - Sarah Karpanty

  • Faculty Senate Secretary/Treasurer - Seeking nominations
  • College of Agriculture and Life Sciences - Mike Akers
  • College of Architecture and Urban Studies - Jim Bassett
  • Pamplin College of Business - Bryan Cloyd
  • College of Engineering - Vacant
  • College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences - Bernice Hausman
  • College of Veterinary Medicine - Kathy Hosig

Duties of the cabinet are:

 

  • To serve as the executive committee of the Faculty Senate to which it is responsible and to which it reports regularly on the disposition of matters submitted to it.

 

  • To act on behalf of the Faculty Senate between senate meetings.

 

  • To discharge other duties in accordance with parliamentary procedure and the senate constitution and bylaws.

 

  • To review the resolutions forwarded to the University Council by the various commissions and to advise the senators on University Council of any resolutions that should be deferred for Faculty Senate consideration.

 

  • To oversee and coordinate the activities of all officers and standing committees of the Faculty Senate in order that their duties may be discharged expeditiously.

 

  • To set the time and place and, together with the president, prepare the agenda for meetings of the Faculty Senate. (A senator may move additions to the agenda at the time of adoption by the Faculty Senate.)

 

  • To serve as the nominations committee.

 

  • To call special meetings of the Faculty Senate as provided in article VII, section 2 of the constitution.

 

  • To nominate members of all standing committees for election by the Faculty Senate.

 

  • To nominate Faculty Senate representatives to the University Council for election by the Faculty Senate.

 

  • To seek nominations from department faculties and the Faculty Senate for senate-elected representatives on university commissions and to submit a list of nominees for election by the Faculty Senate.

 

  • To recommend senate nominees for membership on university committees when requested by the president of the university. The Faculty Senate must confirm such nominations.

 

  • To make nominations, insofar as possible, to ensure rotation of assignments and utilization of the talents of all faculty.
